Chapter Roundup: The Peninsula Chapter is on the Rise!
By: Will Fuentes, Finance Director, City of Campbell
The Peninsula Chapter is back—and thriving like never before! Over the past year, the chapter has reemerged as a vibrant hub for local government finance professionals on
the San Francisco Peninsula. After a quiet spell post COVID, Chapter Chair Will Fuentes (Finance Director at the City of Campbell) and Vice Chair Derek Rampone (Finance and Administrative Services Director at the City of Mountain View) have reignited
the spark, crafting a vibrant lineup of events that blend professional growth with genuine connection.
Our latest highlight? On August 20, 2025, we hit the greens – literally – for our “Summer Fun and Learning” event at TopGolf Burlingame. Nearly 30 professionals from agencies up and down the Peninsula as well as several commercial members came together to learn from Alaynè Marie Sampson, CTP and Steve Huntley, CPFO of Chandler Asset Management on how tariffs are impacting local governments, share ideas, and enjoy friendly competition over golf swings, great food, and laughter in the summer sun. We want to give a special thanks and shout out to our event sponsors J.P. Morgan, UFI Financial Solutions, ZacTax, and MGO. Without your support and generosity, we could not have made this event happen for our members. Thank you!

But TopGolf is just part of the story. Our quarterly lunchtime meetings have become the heartbeat of the chapter, rotating through cities like Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and Campbell. Each one over the past year has delivered thought-provoking speakers on hot topics - payroll law, economic forecasting, sales tax trends, cyber risks, GASB updates—paired with invaluable networking and peer-to-peer learning.
The momentum is undeniable: attendance is consistently topping 30, and members leave each gathering energized with new strategies, fresh perspectives, and stronger professional ties.
And we’re just getting started. Next up is a joint meeting with the East Bay Chapter on Thursday, October 9 (hosted by the City of Newark), to get up to speed on what’s new and noteworthy in municipal revenue from Michael Coleman. That fascinating event will be followed by a festive holiday luncheon in early December. Location, Date, and Time for our holiday luncheon is TBD. Please keep an eye on the CSMFO Events Calendar as well as your e-mail inbox for event announcements!
Have an idea for a future topic? Want to host a meeting in your city? If so, please contact Will (willf@campbellca.gov) or Derek (derek.rampone@mountainview.gov). Your input shapes our agenda, locations, and experiences. Together, we’re building more than events – we’re creating meaningful moments, lasting relationships, and a community where finance professionals truly connect. See you at the next gathering!
