Spread across San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara County our area offers the best in easy, coastal living. In addition to the fine quality of life, our economy is vibrant. Catering to small and medium-sized companies the growth trend is toward clean, high-tech businesses. Commercial space activities and the aerospace industry at Vandenberg Air Force Base represent a major economic force for the future. Tourism and leisure activities are our number one attractions. These attractions offer many great beach communities; fine wines and winery tours throughout the area; Hearst Castle to the north; a Danish community to the south; and, the award winning “Best Downtown” in San Luis Obispo. 12. San Gabriel Valley ChapterThe San Gabriel Chapter of CSMFO covers 34 cities, ranging from Santa Clarita and San Fernando on the west to Claremont on the east. Within the valleys 400 square miles, the right environment for business and living can be found. In addition to small and medium-sized businesses that form the basis of the Valleys business community, numerous Fortune 500 companies have major offices or plants in the area. They include Miller Brewing Co., Edison International, Avery Dennison, and many others. The San Gabriel Valley chapter continually tries to assist in these endeavors by having bi-monthly meetings. The meetings are held at the Four Points Sheraton, in Monrovia, usually on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. A blend of technical and professional topics are offered. This is done to keep finance officers up to speed on financial issues, but also to focus on professional growth issues. I would like to encourage all San Gabriel Valley cities to attend the chapter meetings on a regular basis. It is a great way to stay in contact with your peers. Also, make sure to join the chapter e-mail group. Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported CSMFO. Our organization is only as strong as the involvement of our members. Thanks everyone! 15. Desert Mountain ChapterThe Desert Mountain, “where the sand meets the snow,” meets quarterly at various locales depending on the season and graciousness of its members. This chapter is the largest, geographically, of the CSMFO chapters. Generally located East of the Sierras and North of San Bernadino, it also includes the highest (Mt. Whitney) and lowest (Death Valley) points in the state. Members who regularly attend meetings include the cities/towns of Apple Valley, Barstow, Big Bear Lake, Hesperia, Lancaster, Palmdale and Victorville. Other members, geographically challenged by our vast territory, attend less frequently. Still we would like to say that we “have the most fun and are the friendliest” of all the chapters.
