The Fundamentals of Municipal Revenue I series consists of three modules: Module 1, “Revenue Overview & Property Tax,” Module II, “Sales Tax,” and Module III, “Other Local Taxes, Fees, Charges.” In this series, the basics of key revenue sources are presented clearly.  

Module I will provide an overview of California local government revenues and in-depth coverage of property tax.  Along with Michael, the course will be co-presented by Nichole Cone, Vice President and Paula Cone, President of HdL Coren & Cone.

Module II focuses on sales tax including discussion on tax rate components and allocations, and how sales tax revenues are administered.  In addition, the course will cover revenue trends, how remote (online) sales taxes work as well as tools for forecasting and maximizing sales tax revenue. This session will be co-presented by Ken Nordhoff, Principal of HdL Companies.

Module III covers other taxes and fees that are important revenue sources for public agencies such as, documentary transfer and property transfer taxes, hotel occupancy taxes, utility users taxes, franchises, royalties, rents and licenses. This session will also be co-presented by Ken Nordhoff, Principal of HdL Companies.
